It gobsmacks me how many horse riders have bad backs and sore knees and chronic neck and shoulder tension – considering how easily fixed it is and how easy it is to KEEP it fixed – and see my guarantee about that below.
In my on line horse riding lessons, I teach people this thing I call effortlessly powerful posture. For them it’s about learning to be good horse riders, but the biggest side effect of this posture is a dramatic reduction in muscular skeletal problems for both riders AND their horses.
And that includes a dramatic reduction (and eventual elimination) of back pain, knee pain, chronic neck and shoulder tension – including the headaches that tend to go with that.
I start teaching horse riders this posture standing and walking first, then sitting in a chair and then later they take it out to their horse – who sighs with relief and can then start getting their OWN good posture, which helps the horse too start to heal THEIR muscular – skeletal injuries.
I used to fix people’s crook backs (amongst other things) for a living. A “crook back” is an Aussie expression for a bad back – a REALLY bad back with a lot of pain. And I still do some of that work because I enjoy it so much watching people come in crippled with back spasm – actually I don’t enjoy watching them in PAIN – it’s the fixing part that I enjoy doing!
So often they come into my healing room – shuffling along, bent over and unable to straighten up, their backs are in so much trouble and then I get such a buzz at seeing them go out walking normally.
I enjoy the work and no matter how busy I get with my on line horse riding courses, I cannot imagine ever not doing any of this healing work in my clinic.
This effortlessly powerful posture – separate those words and allow each one to sink into your mind –
– this… effortlessly… powerful… posture… has a dramatic effect in taking undue pressure off your lower back (which means an immediate reduction in lower back pain). It takes undue pressure off your knees – which also means an almost immediate reduction in knee pain.
Even that arthritic throbbing will reduce dramatically when you are in this natural and effortless good posture and then we can usually get rid of the rest of arthritic pain with some simple dietary stuff.
Most of the people in my healing room have some posture work at the end of a healing session, because otherwise they are going to end up straight back here, with crook backs and crook knees again.
Good posture is NOT about standing or sitting up straight in the ridiculous way that we were taught when we were kids at school – or as riders in the way were taught to ride sitting up straight, stick your chest out rubbish that we were taught – God bless them for not knowing any different.
It’s about a flexible pelvis at the right angle that lines up with your stomach muscles to create a lovely, automatically strong, EFFORTLESS core that supports not just your back, but has your whole body almost sighing in relief because everything is in the right place for working the way it was designed to, including legs and knees.
You can do all the exercising you want to strengthen your core – pilates, gym, whatever – but if your posture is not aligned in this EFFORTLESS place, then you are going to end up in trouble eventually and if you are already in trouble, then I can just about guarantee that’s why.
My husband crushed both legs across the kneecaps in a truck accident nearly 18 years ago and has no arthritis and no knee pain in this posture. (There was a bit more to his recovery than posture (understatement), but he rarely needs any session work with me for years now – and that’s because he has this posture effortlessly and naturally.
I had some arthritis developing in one knee that just ached and throbbed so much at night I was just about crying with the unrelenting pain of it. It started not long before I learned this posture.
And thank God, and I do mean thank God… The aches and pains had an immediate reduction in this posture and were completely gone within a week or so… completely gone…
If your arthritis is of longer standing, then it will no doubt take you a bit longer – but in my experience everyone feels some improvement very fast.
Even riding accidents are attended to in my on line lessons that I call Fast Track to Brilliant Riding. We have two lessons about releasing what I call the fright imprint from old falls. And when we release the fright imprint, we release the tensions from that old fall and then the muscles and bones can start to slide back into place – naturally.
Think about how logical it is – release the tension and the muscles can start working properly again. When the muscles are working properly and supporting our bones the way they were designed to, then the bones can start to slide back into the places that they were designed to be.
So there is another source of body pain eventually eliminated.
