Snakes hunt for their food with their venom and if they waste it – and using it on us is wasting it – then they go hungry. So no self respecting snake wants to bite a human or a horse or a dog or anything else that’s too big to eat. An experienced snake (laughing here at that description) will even “dry bite” on purpose – deliberately not inject venom.
The logic of this is inescapable, so how come most people are still so afraid of snakes? And how come snakes bite people at all?
Believe me, the snake is more afraid of us than we are of them
I can hear some of you snorting with disbelief from here. That would mean that the snake is pretty damned scared hey?
Yep.
And the more scared they are, the more likely they are to bite in self defense.
I’m laughing to myself. And you’ll understand my warped sense of humor in a minute. Students or readers of “I wish you Happiness” will already understand the concept of escalating upsets.
Read this diagram from the number 1 at the bottom of the picture.
Did you read that diagram from the BOTTOM 1. to the top?
Did I make sense? Our connection to others is normal and natural – it’s when we don’t understand how it works, that the pressure can keep mounting and we get into these escalating upset situations. I explain all the ways in which we experience our connection to each other in great detail in the emailbook “I wish you Happiness”.
The biggest part of that diagram is that not only do we ESCALATE the fear when we don’t understand fear and how it works and what we can do with it, is that THE REVERSE IS ALSO TRUE – that the situation is DE-escalated when we DO understand our connection and how to use it for our and the snake’s benefit. OUR inner peace is reflected to the snake.
So HOW do we figure out what we need to know or do about the snake and a snake situation so that we can be these paragons of the natural environment, so that we’re able to have this laid back attitude of “hey brother, let’s not frighten each other, shall we?” That’s the sixty four million dollar question hey, when the heart’s pounding out of your chest with terror?
Yeah well it’s a bit hard to start this process when your heart’s pounding – not impossible, but it IS harder.
We can do as much as we can AHEAD of time by meditating on our fear with the intention of understanding our fear and snakes generally and that can dramatically change our experience in a close encounter. I’ll give you a meditation you can use for that in a minute and you can do it as often as you want or need, until there’s real inner peace around snakes.
The process certainly worked for me. I was bitten by a snake as a crawling baby and was snake phobic for most of my life – I’d have screaming, sleep walking, snake nightmares if I got a fright with a snake on the TV. Understanding how fear works and it’s usefulness, how to use it to make myself safe, how to understand and release old fears, has gotten rid of vast amounts of the old suppressed fears that were making the snake fear more intense.
Having an experience of the gorgeous sentience of snakes and understanding them, took off another giant layer of fear. Ask me about that story in one of our free live events one day – it’s a good one! You might even like to be one of the people I work with and release some of your own fears and phobias.
These days I can FEEL when a snake is close by, pause and do the whole “hello brother, let’s not startle each other here hey”, see him and not be scared – just cautious. I even had a series of snake “nightmares” a few months back, where I wasn’t actually afraid as I unwound one from my arm, shooed another out the door and I can’t remember the rest now, there was a whole heap of them. That was seriously cool to realize that I’ve dealt with snake THAT well!
Free healing meditation
You can use my reiki grid healing meditation with the intention of understanding old fears that are making a snake fear more intense AND to understand whatever it is that you personally need to understand about snakes. It’s a healing meditation, so just flow along with the words and the lovely healing energy. You initial intention is powerful enough that whatever you need to know or do around snakes will come to you, whether it’s during the meditation or afterwards.
Practical tips
The most common way for people to get bitten is by sticking their fingers into and under things that a snake is hiding under. Have you ever considered how much like a baby mouse our fingers look? So it’s pretty easy to never stick our fingers somewhere where they could look like a baby mouse.
The next common way to get bitten is to try and kill them. I mean come on folks… derrr… if a snake is ever going to get defensive and attack in defense of itself, it’s going to be when you’re trying to kill it. So let’s not do that any more hey?
Far from being afraid, I could even have a pet snake now, ‘cept my husband says if a snake moves in, he’s moving out! lol!
