This is Oliver’s first time in the gag without drugs and the gag changed things again – not perfect – but you can see that the key to success was encouraging him to drift backwards rather than going up. We didn’t go too far – just did the top teeth properly today and he’ll have the bottom teeth done with the ponies next week.
It’s worth paying Jenavive for 3 visits like this, so that I have a horse who is as happy and relaxed as he can be at the dentist from now on. I expect that it will only take one visit next year to get the whole job done as relaxed as you can be at the dentist. 🙂
Here’s the link to the first session with the new dentist, after I’d done my end of the re-training.
This is SUCH a big deal, because this is not about helping him to develop a Comfort Zone. This is about a horse turning over willing co-operation for something that is UNCOMFORTABLE, when getting out of it is as simple as lifting his head a little. What a Star!
